THE CONCEALED CARRY COURSE
HOW TO APPLY
You must apply online at http://www.txdps.state.tx.us. or print an application from the internet and bring it to the classroom. If you choose to print the application, the following forms are necessary:
Photo Holder, Form CHL-6
Original Application, Form CHL-78A

Reported History, Form CHL-78C
Authorization for Release of Records, Form CHL-85
Knowledge of Laws and Eligibility Affidavit, Form CHL-86
The packet will be explained to you and all documents will be notarized. Photographs will be taken in the classroom. Effective March 1, 2011, DPS will only accept electronically submitted fingerprints.
There are two categories of licenses. The "SA" (semi-automatic) and the "NSA" (non semi-automatic). The "SA" category license allows you to carry either a revolver or a semi-automatic handgun. The "NSA" category limits you to a revolver, derringer, single shot, etc.
It is suggested that you qualify with a semi-auto, but that will be your personal choice.
After completion of the course (class & range) you will receive the "Certificate of Training" which you return to DPS with your completed application. This is the form that gets you your license.
You should receive your license in about 90 days.
